Portia is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Rutgers University and a graduate degree from The New School Actor’s Studio MFA program. As part of her graduate studies, she trained at the Alvin Ailey School of Dance for a 3-year intensive for actors. Shortly after graduating from The New School, she gained a co-starring role in “Ghetto Dawg”, a popular urban indie film.

Portia has performed at the Geffen and Pasadena Playhouses in California and in New York City at the Circle in the Square theater, downtown.  In Atlanta,  Portia performed in “The Bluest Eye” to consistently sold out performances at the Horizon Theatre Company of which cast was nominated for “Best Ensemble” for the 2007 Suzi Bass Awards.  She also played the title role of the Little Prince from The Little Princ at 7 Stages theater.  Most recently she was officer Dawn Wilson in Kenneth Lonergan’s “Lobby Hero”.

She appears in the truth-based film American Violet as Laquathia, a smart-mouthed and soft-hearted prison convict, directed by Tim Disney and which also stars Alfre Woodard and Charles Dutton. This Samuel Goldwyn Film has enjoyed a limited theatrical release.
